Community Health

We live in a world of incredible contrasts.  Doctors in one part of the world save a life by transplanting a heart; somewhere else a mother grieves for her child who just died of diarrhea.

  • 20 million blind people could receive their sight through a one-hour operation.

  • Four million children die each year due to diseases preventable by simple immunization.

  • Millions live without medical attention for even the most basic illnesses.

Serving with Mercy Ships, health care professionals donate their skills on board or with land-based offices around the world, serving for 3 weeks to a lifetime.

Medical missions courses prepare professionals to adapt culturally, address health care needs, and deliver health care in developing nations.

Life-changing operations performed by ophthalmologists, plastic surgeons and other specialists restore sight to the blind, make the lame walk, and the dumb speak.

Dentists and hygienists perform extractions, provide restorations and teachmum&twins.jpg (10199 bytes) preventive dental hygiene. Community Health educators train villagers in basic hygiene, nutrition and health.  New Steps provides amputees with high-quality prosthetics in countries ravaged by war and violence.

Poverty is both physical and spiritual. Through the generosity of health care professionals, Mercy Ships extends both hands of the gospel of Jesus Christ by bringing physical and spiritual wholeness to thousands of people.
