Introduction to Mercy Ships- Is It For Me? –at the International Operations Center

This one-week program is designed to facilitate the entry of potential long-term/career staff into Mercy Ships, but is open to those wishing to learn more about Missions and Mercy Ships. This program is a prerequisite to attending a Gateway Program.  Our goal is to help potential staff become as informed in their decision making process as possible.  Topics covered include introduction to missions, Mercy Ships, transitioning, community life issues, support raising and an interview process.

Introduction to Mercy Ships- Is It For Me? –in Europe

The program is also offered for potential Mercy Ships staff in Europe in a three-day (weekend) format. The content of the program will be the same as at the International Operation Center, but in a condensed manner. The course will be conducted in the Netherlands.

Gateway

The Mercy Ships Gateway Program is offered four times a year at the International Operations Centre in Garden Valley, Texas. It is designed to Educate for Missions, Equip for Service with Mercy Ships, and Empower for impacting the poor. Gateway is for singles, couples and families

of all ages serving with Mercy Ships longer than nine months.  This is a  4-week course with an additional 2 ½-week field service in the Dominican  Republic.The field service portion is optional but highly encouraged. Curriculum includes topics on Faith Foundations, Working with the Poor, Personal/Interpersonal Development, and Basic Safety Training (a maritimerequirement).

Integrated Management of Childhood Illness – Field based training in Honduras

This new course is designed for medical professionals.  Training is provided according to the World Health Organization standards for child health practices, with a non-paternalistic framework for medial service. Participants learn to train local health workers to use and implement these standards.

Community Health Evangelism (Training of Trainers I, II, and III) - Field based training in Honduras

This course is geared for those seeking training in community health development. Partnering with Medical Ambassadors International, the curriculum focuses on training nationals to be health workers in their communities. Phase one focuses on development, philosophy and how to start a CHE program with a strong emphasis on how to share with others the news of a loving God. Phases two and three focus on developing teaching materials, methods, and curriculum as well as, project expansion, multiplication and project management. Emphasis is placed on being faithful in responding to the commands of God to love Him and to love and serve others. CEUs/CMEs pending.
